The sense of smell of a detector dog is 10,000 times more sensitive than that of a human. Therefore, detector dogs have made remarkable achievements in detecting drugs hidden in secret places. The major tasks of Detector Dog Training Center are as follows :
- Supporting regional customs by nurturing and evaluating top-tier detector dogs
- Managing training facilities , drugs and explosives for training of detector dogs
- Managing breeding and diseases of detector dogs
- Making example models of drug smuggling and managing tools and vehicles for training
- Raising awareness of harmful effect of drug abuse and promoting drug crack down of the center

For about 8 months For candidates for induction training
Induction Training : for newly recruited officials and new detector dogs
- Training for fellowship and obedience
- Memory training for
remembering the smell of drugs
- Searching passenger baggage(bags)
- Searching passengers and belongings
- Searching ex / import cargo and
postal matters
For 16 weeks Assigning detector dogs to air / sea port customs
Supplementary Training : for under - qualified dogs and handlers according to the evaluation
- Cause analysis for the failure of dogs and handlers
- Cognitive training for the drugs that the dogs failed to sniff out
- Training development to improve adaptive capacity
- Training for enhancing concentration to build up detection capability
For about 3 weeks Reassigning detector dogs
Retirement(Replacement) : when necessary due to aging(diseases) of detector dogs
- Declining in detection ability because of aging
- Deteriorating performance due to health conditions(illnesses)
- Considering animal welfare
